Organic Kids’ Sleeping Tea (80g)

The blend for our Kids’ Sleeping Tea is designed to help children and adults who suffer from restless sleep to have a good night’s sleep. It contains herbs whose beneficial properties have been known for centuries: lemongrass leaf, burdock, elderflower, hibiscus, rosehip, black rowan, and cornflower.

It is suitable for children as young as four months old because it is 100% natural, is not addictive, and has no known side effects. It also tastes delicious, and the calming blend really helps with restlessness, insomnia and nervousness; mum can enjoy a cup when the day’s been more hectic than usual too!

Why Did we Develop Organic Kids’ Sleep Tea?

Like so many, we have noticed the growing reliance on and use of mobile phones and tablets in children as young as those in kindergarten. Our kids’ senses are bombarded with information, noise and images constantly. It’s no wonder that by bedtime, even if rules are in place to limit screen time, our brains and those of our children are still whirring with activity and it’s hard for them to relax and become calm, ready for sleep.

However, we believe that restful sleep promotes children’s development and improves their concentration the next day. So, we took our knowledge and love of herbs to find a natural way to help children (and adults) to unwind and blended a selection of herbs long considered to have soothing properties to make the perfect elixir. Our Kids’ Sleep Tea can be drunk from a young age, tastes delicious and is effective; our own children enjoy a cup before bedtime.

What is in it?

Only the finest herbs have been carefully selected for our teas and those chosen for this tea are designed to taste great but also encourage calmness.

Lemongrass Leaf

Lemongrass, (citronella), is a tall, stalky plant with a fresh, lemony aroma and a citrus flavour. It has been used as a folk remedy for centuries to promote sleep, relieve pain, and boost immunity. One of the most popular ways to enjoy lemongrass is in tea.

Some people inhale lemongrass essential oil to relieve stress and anxiety, and the soothing aroma of tea is likely to do the same.

Lemongrass contains several antioxidants, which can help remove free radicals in the body that may cause disease while lemongrass tea may help treat oral infections and cavities, thanks to its antimicrobial properties.

Inflammation is thought to play a role in many conditions, including heart disease and stroke and some cancers. Two of the main compounds in lemongrass, citral and geranial, are thought to be responsible for its anti-inflammatory benefits. These compounds are said to help stop the release of certain inflammation-causing markers in your body. It is also the citral in lemongrass that is thought to have potent anticancer abilities against some cancer cell lines.

A cup of lemongrass tea is a go-to alternative remedy for upset stomach, stomach cramping, and other digestive problems. It is thought that the essential oil can help protect the stomach lining against damage from aspirin and ethanol as regular aspirin use is a common cause of gastric ulcers.

Burdock

Burdock root is similar to a carrot or parsnip and according to Chinese medicine, roots, like burdock are believed to nourish and heal at the deepest levels because they come from the soil suggesting they help you stay grounded and calm. Having said that, burdock was traditionally used as a diuretic and a digestive aid.

Burdock root has been shown to contain multiple types of powerful antioxidants. These protect cells in the body from damage due to free radicals. They can help treat and prevent a number of different health conditions and burdock is thought to help prevent the growth of certain cancer cells.

One of the most common traditional uses for burdock root has been to purify the blood. Recent studies suggest that burdock root may contain active ingredients in its root system that can remove toxins from the bloodstream.

Elderflower
Elderflower is naturally sweet and adds just the right subtle floral flavour to appeal to children and adults.

Rose Hips
Rose hips are the round, seed-filled bulbs found underneath rose petals. Unlike rose blossoms, which bloom in the spring and summer months, rose hips generally grow after the petals have bloomed and started falling off, which is usually in early to mid-Autumn. In fact, they’re considered sweeter when picked after the first frost of the season.

Rose hips get their red-orange colour from carotenoid pigments known as lycopene and beta carotene. These pigments are thought to promote skin and eye health.

They’re also rich in disease-fighting antioxidants, such as vitamin C, catechins, quercetin, and ellagic acid. A diet rich in these compounds can help lower inflammation and oxidative stress in your body.

Furthermore, vitamin C plays a key role in collagen synthesis and supporting the immune system.

Black Rowan
This tiny red berry packs quite a nutritious punch and includes high levels of vitamin C, but also Vitamins A, E, K and the whole group of B vitamins. In addition, there are significant amounts of calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron and sorbic acid. However, rowan is mostly praised for its unique antioxidant composition; tannins, polyphenols including anthocyanins and flavonoids.
Polyphenols are extremely powerful antioxidants, of which black rowan contains an unsurpassed amount compared to other berries. Based on their unusually strong antioxidant effects, polyphenols are attributed to a number of health-promoting effects.

Hibiscus
Hibiscus flowers come in many colours. They can be red, yellow, white, or peach-coloured, and can be as big as 6 inches wide. 

Hibiscus tea is made from a mixture of dried hibiscus flowers, leaves, and dark red calyces (the cup-shaped centres of the flowers). After the flower finishes blooming, the petals fall off and the calyces turn into pods. These hold the plant’s seeds. Calyces are often the main ingredients in herbal drinks containing hibiscus.

Hibiscus has been used by different cultures as a remedy for several conditions.

Today we know Hibiscus tea is rich in powerful antioxidants and may therefore help prevent harm and disease caused by the build-up of free radicals which cause damage to your cells and can lead to serious illness such as cancers, so perhaps our ancestors were right.

It is commonly thought that hibiscus tea can also help lower blood pressure; several studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, potentially lowering the risk of heart disease.

In addition, there is some evidence that hibiscus tea might be able to support a healthy liver function, helping it to work effectively and also to promote weight loss.

Cornflower
We wanted our tea to look beautiful as well as taste it – that’s where the cornflowers come in to add a fabulous blue hue.

Preparation:
Pour 250 ml of hot water over 1-2 teaspoon of our Organic Kids’ Sleeping Tea. Leave to brew for 10 minutes, strain and your tea is ready. Flavour to your liking and enjoy. It is best to start drinking the tea 1-2 hours before going to bed.

Propolis Throat Spray for Kids (30ml)

Where does Propolis come from?

Propolis is another direct product of bees, like honey. Worker bees combine their saliva with beeswax and sap to create a sticky, greenish-brown product that they use as a disinfectant coating and sealant for their hives, and to protect their larvae from micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi. Like our honey, our propolis comes from bees that live in the pristine Hungarian countryside. Recognised as an area of natural beauty, it is unspoilt by pollution and pesticides with stunning landscapes, crisscrossed with sparkling springs and gurgling rivers, dark, untamed forests and lush wild-flower and lavender meadows, all alive with the buzz of bees.  Our certified organic honey and propolis are both extracted from hives owned by small artisan beekeepers, who use traditional, sustainable methods, working in complete harmony with nature.

What are the benefits of propolis?

Propolis has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties. The Ancient Greeks used it to treat abscesses, the Assyrians put it on wounds and tumours to fight infection and help the healing process, while the Egyptians used it to embalm mummies.

However, because the composition of propolis can vary depending on the location of the bees and which trees and flowers they have access to, it is difficult for researchers to come to general conclusions about its health benefits. For example, propolis from Europe won't have the same chemical makeup as propolis from Brazil.

Having said that there are some features that appear common to all propolis, wherever it is produced. This includes the more than 300 compounds it contains, the majority of which are forms of polyphenols. Polyphenols are antioxidants that fight disease and damage in the body.

Specifically, propolis contains the polyphenols called flavonoids. Flavonoids are produced in plants as a form of protection and are especially known for their anti-oxidant activities which play a significant role in cardiovascular health and in the prevention of cancer.

According to one study, some of the anti-cancerous effects of propolis include:

  • keeping cancerous cells from multiplying
  • reducing the likelihood cells will become cancerous
  • blocking pathways that keep cancer cells from signalling to each other

On a more day to day level propolis is also thought to have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it helpful in wound healing and possibly in healing cold sores, mouth ulcers and gum disorders while preventing these ailments from starting in the first place.

It may also help to alleviate sore throats and the symptoms of colds, gingivitis, hay fever conditions and allergies, but perhaps, more importantly it is thought it can generally help to support and maintain the immune system.

How to use:

Our Propolis Spray for kids is easy to use; simply spray directly into the mouth 5 times a day, which can be increased to 10 sprays a day, if needed. The mixture of propolis with sweet honey and purified water disguises the slightly bitter taste of the propolis, making it palatable to children.
