Black Tea
Black tea potentially offers a variety of health benefits because it contains antioxidants and compounds that can help reduce inflammation in the body. Consuming them on a regular basis may help reduce many risk factors for heart disease, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, elevated triglyceride levels and obesity

The polyphenols found in black tea may help maintain a healthy gut by promoting the growth of good bacteria and inhibiting the growth of bad bacteria, such as Salmonella. In addition, black tea contains antimicrobial properties that kill off harmful substances and improve gut bacteria and immunity by helping repair the lining of the digestive tract.

Drinking black tea on a regular basis may help decrease systolic and diastolic blood pressure, but research is mixed. Other studies have found that drinking black tea may also help reduce the risk of stroke.

On eating sugar, the pancreas secretes a hormone called insulin to carry the sugar to the muscles to be used for energy. If you consume more sugar than your body needs, the excess sugar gets stored as fat. Black tea (when unsweetened) has been found to help enhance the use of insulin in the body.

Rose Hips
Rose hips are the round, seed-filled bulbs found underneath rose petals. Unlike rose blossoms, which bloom in the spring and summer months, rose hips generally grow after the petals have bloomed and started falling off, which is usually in early to mid-Autumn. In fact, they’re considered sweeter when picked after the first frost of the season.

Rose hips get their red-orange colour from carotenoid pigments known as lycopene and beta carotene. These pigments are thought to promote skin and eye health.

They’re also rich in disease-fighting antioxidants, such as vitamin C, catechins, quercetin, and ellagic acid. A diet rich in these compounds can help lower inflammation and oxidative stress in your body.

Juniper berries
The juniper tree, Juniperus communis, is an evergreen shrub that produces seed cones that are commonly known as juniper berries which are deep blue. Their aroma is often described as woody or spicy and they have a tart, pine-like flavour.

These small berries have been used for culinary and medicinal purposes since ancient times, and current research suggests that they may offer various health benefits.

Star Anise
Star anise is a spice made from the fruit of the Chinese evergreen tree Illicium verum.
It’s aptly named for the star-shaped pods from which the spice seeds are harvested and has a flavour reminiscent of liquorice so adds a delicious sweetness to our tea.

Packed with antioxidants star anise is a rich source of the flavonoid anethole. This compound is responsible for the spice’s distinct flavour and offers potent antifungal benefits. Cloves are the flower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen also known as Syzygium aromaticum. They are best known as a sweet and aromatic spice, but they have also been used in traditional medicine.

Ceylon Cinnamon, or ‘true cinnamon’ is made from the inner bark of the Cinnamomum verum tree. This bark is harvested and dried producing curls, which are commonly called cinnamon sticks. Ceylon Cinnamon is higher quality, slightly sweeter and more expensive than the more readily available Cassia Cinnamon which is the variety generally found in the supermarkets. Ceylon Cinnamon can be purchased as whole sticks, as an extract or as ground powder.
