Ginger has a very long history in traditional and alternative medicine. It’s been used to aid digestion, reduce nausea (including morning sickness), and to help fight the flu and common cold, to name but a few of its purposes.
The magic ingredient appears to be gingerol, a natural oil that occurs in ginger and provides the herb with its unique fragrance and flavour. Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger and is responsible for much of ginger’s medicinal properties.
According to research, Gingerol has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
Recent research also suggests Ginger has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors in people with type 2 diabetes. And that’s not all - it is also thought ginger can help with indigestion. It’s believed that delayed emptying of the stomach is a major driver of indigestion and interestingly, ginger has been shown to speed up the emptying of the stomach (3)
Honey is a great alternative to sugar, but it has also been revered for centuries for its medicinal uses and health benefits. It is said that honey is an effective cough suppressant, and it is also thought to be a powerful treatment for burns and other skin wounds. Honey could possibly also aid sleep and boost memory. Its many antioxidant and antibacterial properties, are believed to help protect and fight against diseases and illnesses.
Despite no scientific evidence to prove that the effects of ginger and honey together are greater than the separate parts, it surely can’t do any harm and it’s definitely a delicious way to combine two fabulous flavours.

Worker bees combine their saliva with beeswax and sap to create a sticky, greenish-brown product that they use as a disinfectant coating and sealant for their hives, and to protect their larvae from micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi. Our propolis comes from bees that live in the pristine Hungarian countryside. Propolis has been used for thousands of years by man for its medicinal properties. The Ancient Greeks used it to treat abscesses, the Assyrians put it on wounds and tumours to fight infection and help the healing process, while the Egyptians used it to embalm mummies.
However, because the composition of propolis can vary depending on the location of the bees and which trees and flowers they have access to, it is difficult for researchers to come to general conclusions about its health benefits. For example, propolis from Europe won't have the same chemical makeup as propolis from Brazil.
Having said that, there are some features that appear common to all propolis, wherever it is produced. This includes the more than 300 compounds it contains, the majority of which are forms of polyphenols. Polyphenols are antioxidants that fight disease and damage in the body.
Specifically, propolis contains the polyphenols called flavonoids. Flavonoids are produced in plants as a form of protection and are especially known for their anti-oxidant activities which play a significant role in cardiovascular health and in the prevention of cancer.

On a more day to day level propolis is also thought to have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it helpful in wound healing and possibly in healing cold sores, mouth ulcers and gum disorders while preventing these ailments from starting in the first place.
It may also help to alleviate sore throats and the symptoms of colds, gingivitis, hay fever conditions and allergies, but perhaps, more importantly it is thought it can generally help to support and maintain the immune system.
Our organic propolis extract comes in an easy-to-use liquid format.As part of your every-day health regime, we recommend that you spray 10-15 drops of propolis directly into the mouth once a day. It tastes quite sweet, but admittedly it also has a slight anti-septic effect that numbs or de-sensitises your taste buds. If you don't like this sensation, then the drops can be added to anything you digest for an oral treatment eg your morning coffee, water, oatmeal or a spoonful of honey, and the healing properties will gradually be dispersed to benefit your entire body.
Propolis can also be used externally and topically. Due to its anti-inflammatory effects, propolis is thought to promote the growth of cells that contribute to hair growth and may even stimulate hair re-growth in some areas where hair loss has occurred if it is rubbed into the scalp.
Likewise, propolis has numerous benefits for the skin, especially in terms of acne, ageing and skin healing. Propolis has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to fight off acne and pimples. It is said to increase the cellular immune response, decrease the number and severity of spots, ease redness and prevent further acne. If acne has left scars, propolis is believed to have positive effects in repairing these marks.
Finally, propolis is thought to protect the skin from damage by free radicals caused by environmental pollution, sun exposure and radiation. These can damage the skin, change its colour, and weaken the skin with wrinkles and premature ageing. In contrast, if applied direct to the face propolis, rich in antioxidants, protects the skin by contributing electrons to the free radicals to stop skin damage.
A certain chemical in propolis might slow blood clotting. Taking propolis might increase the risk of bleeding in people with bleeding disorders or cause problems for anyone taking blood thinners such as warfarin. In these circumstances It is advisable to check with a doctor before taking Propolis and to stop taking it two weeks before any surgery as the presence of propolis in the system might increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery.

Rose hips are the round, seed-filled bulbs found underneath rose petals. Unlike rose blossoms, which bloom in the spring and summer months, rose hips generally grow after the petals have bloomed and started falling off, which is usually in early to mid-Autumn. In fact, they’re considered sweeter when picked after the first frost of the season.
Rose hips get their red-orange colour from carotenoid pigments known as lycopene and beta carotene. These pigments are thought to promote skin and eye health.
They’re also rich in disease-fighting antioxidants, such as vitamin C, catechins, quercetin, and ellagic acid. A diet rich in these compounds can help lower inflammation and oxidative stress in your body.
Furthermore, vitamin C plays a key role in collagen synthesis and supporting the immune system.
Hibiscus flowers come in many colours. They can be red, yellow, white, or peach-coloured, and can be as big as 6 inches wide.
Hibiscus tea is made from a mixture of dried hibiscus flowers, leaves, and dark red calyces (the cup-shaped centres of the flowers). After the flower finishes blooming, the petals fall off and the calyces turn into pods. These hold the plant’s seeds. Calyces are often the main ingredients in herbal drinks containing hibiscus.
Hibiscus has been used by different cultures as a remedy for several conditions. Egyptians used hibiscus tea to lower body temperature, treat heart and nerve diseases, and as a diuretic to increase urine production.
In Africa, tea was used to treat constipation, cancer, liver disease, and cold symptoms. Pulp made from the leaves was applied to the skin to heal wounds.
Today we know Hibiscus tea is rich in powerful antioxidants and may therefore help prevent harm and disease caused by the build-up of free radicals which cause damage to your cells and can lead to serious illness such as cancers, so perhaps our ancestors were right.
It is commonly thought that hibiscus tea can also help lower blood pressure; several studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, potentially lowering the risk of heart disease.
In addition, there is some evidence that hibiscus tea might be able to support a healthy liver function, helping it to work effectively and also promote weight loss, while Hibiscus is high in polyphenols, which are compounds that have been shown to possess powerful anti-cancer properties.
Calendula, a flowering plant also known as pot marigold, can be served as a tea, or used as an ingredient in various herbal formulations.
While the tea is made by steeping the flowers in boiling water, the extract is derived from both the flowers and the leaves. Despite its slightly bitter taste, calendula tea is a traditional remedy used in folk medicine because of its ascribed therapeutic properties.
Taken internally as a tea or tincture, calendula is thought to aid and treat digestive issues, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as an adjunct therapy for peptic ulcers, to stimulate the lymphatic system, and to assist with a smooth menstrual flow.
The herb’s antifungal and antimicrobial properties help prevent infection and heal injuries to body tissues. Calendula is also known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant components and is full of carotenoids and flavonoids all of which might help to fight cancer, protect against heart disease and other diseases, while also easing muscle fatigue.
If you simply can’t wait, it’s fine to add boiling water to the tea for instant consumption, however, to get the best out of our Morning Time Tea, you need to ensure all the vitamin C and other fruit acids have been completely dissolved. Therefore, we recommend soaking the tea in cold water for at least 12 hours and then reheat it to drink.
Use 1-2 teaspoons of tea mixture for one cup of tea.
