Traditional Easter Cholla with Soft Set Honey

Bring a touch of tradition to your Easter table with this soft and beautifully braided cholla bread. Lightly sweetened with honey, it has a delicate flavour and a wonderfully fluffy texture that makes it perfect for sharing.

Whether served warm for breakfast or alongside a festive meal, this classic recipe is simple, comforting, and full of character. Finished with a golden crust and a drizzle of soft set honey, it’s a timeless bake that never fails to impress.

Ingredients:

  • 500g strong bread flour
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 250ml warm water
  • 2 tbsp Soft Set Honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg (plus extra for glaze)

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water with honey; let sit for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour and salt, then add yeast mixture, oil, and egg. 
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes). 
  4. Let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled. 
  5. Divide, braid into a loaf, and place on a baking tray. 
  6. Brush with egg wash and let rise again for 30 minutes. 
  7. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes until golden. 

Serve warm with an extra drizzle of soft set honey 🍯
