Bee pollen is a mixture of pollen, bee saliva, and nectar or honey of pollen. Bees carry these bee pollen balls in sacs on their legs back to the hive. It is collected with a thick comb in the entrance of the hive. When a bee passes through it, the pollen balls are dropped off their legs into the collection bin below. As a consequence, the bee then goes out to collect more pollen.
Bees combine their saliva with beeswax and sap to create a sticky, greenish-brown product that is called propolis. They use propolis is a coating to build their hives.
